Role description
The Ideal Candidate The Assistant Merchandiser plays a key role in supporting the Merchandise Manager across all Johnston & Murphy retail channels, including physical stores, the Johnston & Murphy website, and marketplace platforms. This position is responsible for assisting with merchandise planning, order management, inventory distribution, and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to help drive merchandising strategies that support sales growth and operational efficiency. How You Will Make An Impact β€’ Collaborate with the Merchandise Manager to support merchandise distribution across Johnston & Murphy retail stores, e-commerce, and marketplace platforms. β€’ Analyze sales data to determine appropriate size scales, set and adjust model stocks, and optimize inventory levels. β€’ Prepare and submit purchase orders to the Production Planning team in the required format. β€’ Develop and maintain seasonal reporting to track key metrics such as cost, retail pricing, door count, gross margin, forecasts, and sales plans. β€’ Enter and manage merchandise data across various systems and platforms to ensure accuracy and consistency. β€’ Monitor the Johnston & Murphy website for product accuracy, pricing, and presentation. β€’ Partner with the Operations team to communicate merchandising updates to office staff and store teams. β€’ Coordinate shipping and receiving logistics with the Sourcing Division as needed. β€’ Perform daily data entry tasks to support merchandising operations. β€’ Organize and manage merchandise needs for annual sales meetings and other company events. β€’ Assist with additional merchandising-related tasks and projects as assigned. Experience And Skills You'll Need To Have β€’ High school diploma or equivalent required. β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field preferred. β€’ 1–3 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or retail operations is strongly preferred. β€’ Experience in retail store management is a plus. β€’ Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed business decisions. β€’ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach. Functional/Technical Competencies β€’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data analysis). β€’ Strong aptitude for learning new systems and merchandising tools. β€’ Solid understanding of retail math and inventory principles. β€’ Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting.
