Role Overview We are currently seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Backend Developer to join our growing technical team. You’ll work across a range of custom Shopify builds and app integrations, building backend services and scalable logic to power modern commerce experiences. This role is best suited for someone with hands-on experience in JavaScript-based development (particularly with Node.js) who is looking to deepen their expertise within the Shopify ecosystem. We are open to candidates with experience in similar backend languages, provided you can demonstrate transferable skills and a willingness to work primarily in JavaScript/TypeScript environments going forward. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js (with frameworks such as Remix, Express, or similar). • Contribute to the design of scalable, maintainable backend systems that integrate seamlessly with Shopify. • Collaborate with frontend developers to deliver performant, custom Shopify experiences. • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to backend performance, integrations, and data handling. Requirements • 1–3 years of professional experience in backend development. • Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript (or in another backend language such as PHP, with a willingness to transition). • Familiarity with modern backend frameworks like Remix, Express, or similar. • Solid understanding of API patterns, particularly RESTful and GraphQL-based integrations. • Familiar with Git-based workflows, basic deployment processes, and CI/CD principles. Desirable (but not essential) • Experience working directly with the Shopify platform (Storefront API, Admin API, custom/private apps, Functions/Extensions). • Working understanding of the Shopify ecosystem, including Liquid, theme structuring, or metafield usage. • Exposure to modern retail platforms, or bespoke retail integrations. • Understanding of or experience with serverless infrastructure. • Awareness of API security, performance tuning, and best practices for scalable backend services.
