Role description
Backend Systems Integration Engineer (OMS / ERP / Shopify)
tarte cosmetics is seeking an experienced Backend Systems Integration Engineer to join our Order Management Systems (OMS) team. This full-time role is responsible for ensuring the seamless flow of data between our Shopify Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) storefront and backend systems including ERP, Vertex (tax), and ESW (international logistics).
The ideal candidate is a systems-minded troubleshooter with strong technical fluency across APIs, cloud tools, and databases. This role is highly cross-functional, partnering with Planning, Customer Experience, QA, and Engineering teams to support clean, timely, and reliable order processing.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and requires working in our office at least 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor and troubleshoot order and data flows between eCommerce front-end, ERP, tax, and fulfillment systems
• Investigate and resolve sync failures, webhook issues, and data mismatches using Postman, SQL, and system logs
• Reprocess or replay failed API calls and validate successful resolution
• Escalate, track, and document issues via Jira with clear root cause analysis
• Partner with internal teams and external vendors (e.g., Shopify, Vertex, ESW) to identify and resolve integration issues
• Support UAT/staging testing and monitor CI/CD pipelines during release cycles
• Maintain SOPs, system documentation, and integration flow diagrams
• Ensure smooth operation of critical data workflows in a fast-paced production environment
Qualifications
• 3-8 years of experience in technical operations, eCommerce systems support, or integration-heavy environments (e.g., WMS, OMS, ERP)
• Strong proficiency in REST/GraphQL APIs (e.g., Shopify, Salesforce Commerce, Magento, BigCommerce)
• Experience using AWS tools such as EC2, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, SNS, and Route 53
• Proficient in SQL for querying large datasets, optimizing schema design, and tuning performance
• Comfortable navigating Linux/Unix systems, retrieving logs, and using shell/SSH
• Familiar with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows
• Able to read and debug scripts in JavaScript, Node.js, Python, or PHP (for troubleshooting purposes)
• Experience with Jira or similar tools for issue tracking and documentation
• Detail-oriented, well-organized, and thrives in cross-functional technical environments
Preferred Skills
• Experience with ERP platforms like NetSuite or SAP
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or CircleCI
• Exposure to web server troubleshooting and configuration (Apache, NGINX)
• Experience working with external platforms/vendors (3PLs, tax engines, SaaS APIs)
What Sets You Up for Success
• You love diving into system-level issues and tracing order data across APIs, logs, and databases
• You think critically and solve problems by identifying root causes, not just symptoms
• You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• You stay calm under pressure and maintain precision in production environments
Our Perks
• Salary range: $110,000-$125,000 (final compensation depends on experience and technical depth)
• Medical, dental, vision, 401k plan & access to health and wellness programs
• Paid vacation, holidays, summer Fridays, birthdays off, volunteer time & more!
• Gratis, employee discount on tarte.com, team give-back initiatives
• Friendly, fun, creative & collaborative work environment
