Role description
Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Truck Outfitters is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trainers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve our residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150+ retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by our corporate offices (in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL), distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities. Job Summary The Developer position is remote, with operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for ensuring high-performing, reliable, and scalable solutions across multiple systems, with a focus on optimizing e-commerce performance. Unlike traditional e-commerce companies, our business model is centered around generating online quotes and deposits and driving qualified traffic into our physical stores, where expert installation is our competitive advantage. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of IT and has no direct reports. Job Responsibilities β€’ Big commerce developer. β€’ Develop and enhance our BigCommerce storefront with a focus on lead generation, quote requests, and installation-driven workflows. β€’ Build and maintain custom product pages, location-based quote forms, and user flows optimized for conversion. β€’ Work with the Stencil framework, BigCommerce APIs, and custom JavaScript to deliver responsive, mobile-first experiences. β€’ Integrate third-party platforms (CRM, email automation, scheduling tools, etc.) to support marketing and operations. β€’ Collaborate with marketing, UX/design, and store operations teams to roll out new features that drive in-store traffic. β€’ Optimize site performance, accessibility, and SEO for increased local visibility. β€’ Maintain clean, maintainable, and scalable code across the front- and back-end. Competencies (skills, Knowledge, And Abilities) β€’ Skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams. β€’ Understanding of SEO best practices, especially for location-based businesses. β€’ Ability to work autonomously in a remote team environment with clear communication and consistent follow-through. β€’ Preferred experience with headless BigCommerce β€’ Preferred experience with familiarity of store locator tools, appointment scheduling, or POS integrations. β€’ Preferred experience with automotive, aftermarket, or retail industry experience. β€’ Preferred experience of proficiency with modern JS frameworks (React, Vue) or CMS platforms. Education/Experience Requirements β€’ 3+ years of full-stack development experience, ideally in an e-commerce or retail environment. β€’ 1+ years working with BigCommerce, including theme customization, custom widgets, and API integrations. β€’ Strong working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML/CSS, REST APIs, Git, and responsive design. β€’ Experience developing quote request systems, form integrations, or custom checkout alternatives. Travel This position requires approximately some travel within the United States.
