Job Definition:
The Director of Distribution Systems & Analytics is responsible for all distribution systems and analytics to ensure timely & accurate planning, drive efficiencies, problem-solving, and cost savings. The Director is the key conduit between the distribution team and IT. The Director will manage the Operations Analyst(s) and have dotted-line oversight of the Inventory Control Manager.
This role leads by example, through hands-on execution of many tasks to lead and teach their team while working alongside them.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Ensure sustainable distribution center performance through in-depth technical knowledge, analyses, and review of systems and daily reports.
• Identify, document, and communicate key distribution system needs (WMS, LMS, etc.) to IT.
• Coordinate and manage system improvements and training between the distribution team and IT.
• Lead efforts to manage labor costs by selecting the optimal pick method for customer/order type (ex., Pick Tunnels, Put Walls, Bulk Picks, etc.), receiving & put-away rules, replenishment settings, and inventory control system-generated counts
• Manage operational initiatives & special projects.
• Participate in monthly CapEx meetings as the “voice of distribution” in financial planning
• Through his/her own actions and through the supervision of the Operations Analyst(s):
• Solve a broad range of problems (of varying scopes and complexity) by employing project management tools and analytical approaches
• Create data collection tools and reports to monitor operations performance, including development and presentation of KPIs (on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis) to the distribution team and senior leadership. KPIs include LMS data and the cost of service by channel and by ship method.
• Conduct space planning to ensure optimal inventory flow and limited need for off-site storage.
• Ensure outbound freight rate shopping accurately reflects carrier and picking costs, which vary by shipping method.
• Manage the cost-effective purchasing of distribution supplies and materials.
• Generate demand-based slotting plans across all products seasonally.
• Continuously review the product slotting vs. demand velocity to maximize the effectiveness of replenishment and ensure efficient order-flow, picking, and on-time shipments.
• Resolve product data setup problems within WMS and other applications.
• Analyze cost trends to improve distribution center cost effectiveness and coordinate the review, accrual, and reconciliation of distribution operating expenses.
• Other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
Education:
• BS degree in Operations, Finance, Engineering, or Industrial-related fields preferred
Experience:
• 5-10 years’ experience in operations analyst and operations leadership roles
• A comprehensive understanding of distribution systems (WMS, LMS, etc.) includes a variety of picking methods, replenishment strategies, labor management, and other related aspects.
• Experience in consumer products and e-commerce is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of global supply chain logistics is a plus.
Skills:
• Strong strategic, analytical, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to break down complex problems, formulate plans, and conduct analysis
• Knowledge of warehouse management systems
• Ability to analyze large sets of data to recommend and implement solutions
