About the Role The Director of E-Commerce is a strategic leader responsible for driving the technology strategy, development, and operations that power Good Ranchers’ online business. This role owns the performance, scalability, and innovation of our e-commerce ecosystem ensuring we deliver a fast, frictionless, and conversion-focused experience for every customer. You will lead a lean but high-impact technology team, manage platform vendors, and work cross-functionally to align technical capabilities with business growth goals. The Director of E-Commerce is a strategic leader responsible for driving the technology strategy, development, and operations that power Good Ranchers’ online business. Responsibilities β€’ E-commerce Strategy: Develop, plan, and execute a comprehensive e-commerce technology strategy that aligns with the company's overall business objectives. This includes identifying new technology opportunities, market trends, and innovative ways to increase online sales and brand presence. β€’ Website and Digital Platform Management: Oversee the development, design, and functionality of the company's e-commerce website and other digital sales channels (Shopify, Recharge, integrations). This includes ensuring the site is user-friendly, visually appealing, secure, and optimized for performance and conversion. Manage the overall user experience (UX), including site navigation, content, and the sales checkout funnel. Ensure scalability, speed, and site stability to handle peak traffic and high-volume promotions. β€’ Digital Marketing and Sales: Work cross-functionally with marketing in efforts to drive traffic and sales. This includes strategies for search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, email marketing, social media marketing, and other digital campaigns. Champion A/B testing, analytics-driven decisions, and emerging tech (AI, personalization, predictive analytics). β€’ Team Leadership and Management: Build, lead, and mentor a team of e-commerce professionals, which may include outside agencies and collaborators. Set team goals, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative / innovative / productive work environment. Manage workflows, agile sprints, QA processes, and deployment cycles. β€’ Performance Analysis and Optimization: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as website traffic, conversion rates, and website load speed. Use data-driven insights to make strategic decisions, optimize the online store, and improve overall business performance. β€’ Budget Management: Own and manage the e-commerce budget. This includes forecasting and managing all technology expenses (headcount, contractors, infrastructure, software). β€’ Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including marketing, product management, operations, and customer experience, to ensure a seamless and consistent customer experience across all channels (omnichannel strategy). Qualifications β€’ Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Technology, Digital Marketing, or Business Administration is required. An MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred. β€’ Experience: Proven experience (7+ years) in an e-commerce or digital leadership role with a track record of developing and executing successful e-commerce strategies. Experience in managing teams and complex projects is essential. Experience in DTC subscription brands (food & beverage / CPG) preferred. β€’ Strategic Business Acumen: The ability to think strategically, analyze market trends, and develop long-term business plans. Must be comfortable with financial metrics and budget management. β€’ Technical and Platform Knowledge: A strong understanding of e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, subscription management platforms, etc.), web development processes, and digital tools. Strong background in software development, web technologies (Liquid, NEXTJS, NODEJS, Python, Golang, Vanilla JavaScript). Familiarity with personalization engines, AI tools, or headless commerce architecture. Experience optimizing mobile-first and responsive e-commerce experiences for high conversion rates. β€’ Data Analysis: Proficiency in using web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and the ability to interpret data to make informed decisions. β€’ Digital Marketing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of digital marketing channels and tactics, including SEO, SEM, PPC, email, and social media. β€’ Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership skills to inspire and guide a team.
