Role description
Overview:
The Director of Merchandising oversees all Non-Apparel categories, Footwear, Handbags, and Jewelry and reporting into the SVP of Merchandising. This individual will drive the vision and execution of merchandising and buying strategies for their categories, working cross-functionally with Design, Production, Sales, Planning and Marketing to ensure an elevated and cohesive product offering that aligns with the brandβs seasonal and long-term objectives.
Responsibilities
β’ Lead the development of seasonal line plans and assortment strategies ensuring alignment with brand vision, business goals, and customer needs
β’ Manage and mentor team, providing direction, coaching, and clear development goals to support their success and growth
β’ Partner closely with Design to guide product development, ensuring market relevance, brand consistency, and innovation across categories
β’ Analyze weekly, monthly, and seasonal sales data to assess category performance, identify key drivers and risks, and develop action plans
β’ Deliver hindsight reporting and translate findings into forward-looking merchandising strategies
β’ Conduct competitive analysis (pricing, materials, packaging, positioning) to inform seasonal strategy and identify white space opportunities
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Production, Planning, Sales, and Marketing to ensure alignment across all stages of the market process
β’ Oversee the buying process and for our DTC (retail and ecomm) channels, and support in season performance to achieve sales and margin targets
β’ Support the SVP of Merchandising in preparing seasonal presentations, business recaps, and strategic updates for leadership
β’ Serve as the non-apparel merchandising voice across key milestones, ensuring the customer and business needs are prioritized in all decisions.
Education & Experience
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Merchandising, Business, or a related field.
β’ 10+ years of merchandising experience, with a strong background in non-apparel categories.
β’ Proven leadership experience in building and managing merchandising teams.
β’ Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a passion for product and brand storytelling.
β’ Strong product sense and financial acumen.
β’ Excellent communication and presentation skills across all levels of the organization.
