Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and analytical Director of Planning to lead our merchandise planning function and drive data-informed decisions that support profitable growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the Ready-to-Wear (RTW) fashion space and be adept at balancing inventory investment with sales potential, ensuring the right product is in the right place at the right time.
Key Responsibilities:
• Seasonal Planning: Own the end-to-end planning process including pre-season planning, in-season forecasting, and post-season hindsight across all RTW categories.
• Inventory Management: Lead open-to-buy (OTB) strategy, ensuring optimal inventory levels that align with sales goals, minimize markdowns, and maximize profitability.
• Sales & Margin Analysis: Deliver actionable insights through weekly, monthly, and seasonal performance reporting. Monitor sales, margin, and inventory KPIs to optimize business decisions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Design, Merchandising, Sales, and Finance to align product, inventory, and sales strategies. Influence seasonal line plans and financial targets based on historical data and market trends.
• Retail & Wholesale Strategy: Develop channel-specific plans that support both DTC (e-commerce and retail stores) and wholesale growth. Identify risks and opportunities within each channel and recommend tactical responses.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of planners and/or analysts. Provide clear direction, support development, and drive accountability to business goals.
• Systems & Process Improvement: Champion continuous improvement of planning tools, processes, and systems. Implement best practices to enhance forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
• 8+ years of experience in merchandise planning, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at a fashion or RTW brand.
• Deep understanding of planning for both DTC and wholesale channels.
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with retail planning systems (e.g., JDA, Oracle Retail, SAP, or similar).
• Strong financial acumen, retail math, and ability to translate complex data into clear business strategies.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop high-performing teams.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and highly collaborative.
