Role description
The Opportunity We are seeking a hands-on Ecommerce Operations Manager to own and scale the operational backbone of our growing online business. This is a unique opportunity to step into a business at a pivotal moment: • We are transitioning from a legacy retail-based operation toward a scalable, digital-first business. • You’ll work directly with the CEO to design and implement systems that improve inventory management, order fulfillment, vendor relationships, and overall efficiency. • Unlike large corporate roles, you’ll see the direct impact of your work, enjoy autonomy, and be part of a small team where your contributions truly shape the company’s future. This is a first-time hire for ecommerce operations, giving you the chance to establish the foundation for growth. The role combines strategic vision with day-to-day execution—ideal for someone who wants ownership, variety, and the ability to build systems that last. What You’ll Do Inventory & Product Mix • Design and implement scalable inventory management systems. • Rationalize SKU assortment (~3,000 SKUs today) to maximize profitability and demand alignment. • Balance stockholding with long vendor lead times to optimize customer satisfaction. Fulfillment & Logistics • Create order routing and fulfillment processes for both single- and multi-vendor orders. • Optimize shipping cost strategies, especially for bulky/dimensional products. • Develop a roadmap for future distribution (in-house, hybrid, or 3PL partnerships). Vendor & Customer Integration • Standardize processes for vendor relationships, order tracking, and lead-time communication. • Improve post-purchase customer experience with proactive updates, reduced cancellations, and streamlined returns/exchanges. Systems & Process Design • Lead the transition from legacy desktop-based systems to cloud-based solutions (ERP, OMS, WMS). • Implement scalable tools for tracking, reporting, and automation. • Explore AI-enabled tools to enhance forecasting, fulfillment, and communication. What We’re Looking For • 7–10 years of experience in ecommerce operations, supply chain, or logistics. • Proven track record building systems and processes for inventory, fulfillment, and vendor management in a growing ecommerce environment. • Comfortable working in a hybrid NYC role during onboarding, with flexibility to transition to more remote over time. • Hands-on operator who can design strategy and roll up sleeves to execute. • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and make actionable decisions. • Adaptable to change—capable of operating within a retail-anchored structure while building an ecommerce-first model. • Excellent vendor and customer communication skills. • Bonus: Experience with ERP systems, AI-enabled tools, or high-end/specialty consumer products. Why Join Us • Ownership & Autonomy: Work directly with the CEO to shape the next phase of growth. • Impact: See immediate results in a small, high-visibility team. • Stability + Growth: Enjoy the backing of a 60-year-old retail business with the excitement of a fast-growing ecommerce division. • Equity Opportunity: Share in the upside of building a scalable ecommerce operation. • Flexibility: Hybrid work structure with increasing remote options as systems evolve.
