About the Role You’ll be joining as a Founding Engineer, helping build out our technology stack from the ground up. In this role you’ll be part of a team building and maintaining features that enable independent businesses to collaborate on shared promotions. You’ll be part of a team that owns projects end-to-end—from designing database schemas and integrating with RESTful APIs, to creating responsive UIs that delight our merchants. As an early team member, you’ll have outsized influence on our product roadmap and technical architecture. Responsibilities • Align your work schedule with USA Central Standard Time (GMT-6) hours • Help lead architectural decisions, helping shape how our system evolves as we onboard more merchants and scale usage. • Develop end-to-end features, with experience using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js), from technical design to deployment. • Integrate e-commerce APIs (Shopify, Wix, Square, etc.) to sync data in real-time and power seamless retailer experiences. • Maintain and optimize databases in MongoDB for performance and scalability. • Implement best practices in code quality, testing, and DevOps to keep our stack reliable and secure. • Troubleshoot and debug production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and a smooth user experience. Must-Have Qualifications • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing full-stack web applications in a professional environment (at least some experience leading software teams at early-stage startups preferred). • A high degree of proficiency in Node.js, Express.js, React, and MongoDB (or closely related tech). • Familiarity with integrating third-party APIs, particularly e-commerce APIs (Shopify, Wix, Square, etc.). • Strong understanding of web protocols, RESTful API design, and JSON data structures. • Comfortable with Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Nice-to-Haves • Experience with frontend styling libraries (e.g., Tailwind, Material-UI) or state management (e.g., Redux, Context API). • Exposure to serverless architectures and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). • Knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress) for both frontend and backend. • A passion for small business and local commerce, or past experience working with local retailers. • Familiarity with web analytics and performance optimization tools. Compensation This role will offer a competitive base salary, depending on skill level and years of experience, and significant equity grants on a standard 1-year cliff/4-year vest. You will also be eligible for the company’s benefits package, including health & dental insurance (70% of premiums covered by the company). Lastly, you will receive 15 days of paid-time-off, accrued monthly after your start date.
