Job Description: Web Developer III
Summary:
Weβre seeking a skilled Web Developer to join the Central Web Development team, working at the intersection of technical SEO and modern web development. In this role, youβll enable and configure site-specific metadata, manage Robots.txt, implement permanent redirects, and ensure streamlined URL discovery and canonicalization across marketing websites. Your expertise will be critical in optimizing site performance through Server-Side Rendering, monitoring site health, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to develop internal SEO tools and effective content publishing.
Surrounding team & key projects: The team is responsible for web development across all marketing sites for products, ensuring that all sites function optimally and deliver excellent performance. A key focus is managing and maintaining the eCommerce website. Team members should have a strong understanding of both coding and SEO to effectively support site functionality, search engine optimization, and overall user experience.
Years of overall experience required: 5+ years minimum
Responsibilities
β’ Enable and configure site-specific metadata for marketing websites:
β’ Use and maintain Robots.txt to manage URLs and disallow un-necessary URLs.
β’ Use permanent redirects (301s) to preserve page equity when migrating URLs.
β’ Use 404s to indicate when Google should no longer index and rank a page.
β’ Provide the right URLs to discover via: Accurate XML sitemaps, Internal URLs which are accessible (not 404s), Hreflang
β’ Canonicalizing URLs to de-dupe for Google indexing Site-specific monitoring, alerting, triaging, and actioning: 404/500 errors, site performance, and speed metrics
β’ Enable/configure SSR, when appropriate, to optimize for crawler performance
β’ Partner with product & engineering to build and utilize internal tools to maximize SEO
β’ Develop SEO optimized HTML/XML and content
Typical Day-to-Day in the role
β’ Triaging a list of tasks such as fixing broken links and implementing performance and SEO updates.
β’ Proactively monitoring websites and investigating any upticks or trends in performance or issues.
β’ Identifying critical signals in dashboards and prioritizing those worth further investigation.
β’ Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure they have a strong understanding of relevant issues and solutions and a path to fixing
Must-Have Skills:
β’ Web Developer with 5-7 years of experience in technical SEO, including site performance, metrics, accessibility, sitemaps, structured data, and tooling. Strong web dev experience not just SEO Manager. SEO expert with experience writing custom code
β’ Strong understanding of technical SEO. 50/50 of SEO and front end coding.
β’ HTML, Javascript and CSS
β’ Worked within a large team setting. Min 15-50.
