The Role FreshDirect is seeking a bold, entrepreneurial leader to serve as General Manager, Prepared Foods, taking full ownership of one of the most exciting growth opportunities in our business. This is a chance to build and scale a new business pillar from the ground up—defining the strategy, shaping the vision, and driving execution across merchandising, pricing, production, and customer experience. As GM, you’ll have the autonomy to chart the future of FreshDirect’s Prepared Foods, balancing commercial innovation with operational excellence. You’ll partner with internal leaders and external vendors to unlock market opportunities, build category-defining assortments, and deliver high-quality, customer-loved prepared foods that set FreshDirect apart. This is a high-impact, transformative leadership role for someone eager to leave their mark on the business while developing and empowering a team of talented operators, culinary experts, and category managers. What You’ll Do Vision & Strategy • Own the long-term vision and business strategy for FreshDirect’s Prepared Foods, setting bold goals for growth, profitability, and customer impact. • Lead category management, merchandising, and pricing strategies, bringing a customer-first mindset to every decision. • Make key strategic calls—such as buy-vs-make decisions and equipment investments—that shape the department’s growth trajectory. • Take full P&L responsibility, driving sales, gross margin, labor efficiency, and overall profitability. Leadership & Team Development • Inspire, mentor, and develop a team of category experts, operators, and culinary professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence. • Empower your teams to make decisions within their scope while providing clear vision and support. • Build a best-in-class Prepared Foods organization that can scale as the business grows. Collaboration & Partnerships • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain to align business priorities and bring new initiatives to market. • Build and nurture strategic vendor relationships to maximize synergies, enhance quality, and unlock new growth opportunities. • Drive transformation across the department while maintaining an unwavering focus on both customer satisfaction and operational KPIs. What You Bring • 10–15 years of proven leadership experience in Grocery Retail, eCommerce, Manufacturing, or Food Production, with a track record of building and scaling businesses or major categories. • A blend of commercial acumen and operational rigor, with the ability to move seamlessly from strategy to execution. • A growth mindset—comfortable with building, experimenting, and iterating to achieve big outcomes. • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and inspire teams. • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities; data-driven but willing to take calculated risks. • Experience managing large-scale, high-visibility projects from concept through execution. • A passion for food and innovation, paired with the entrepreneurial drive to build a new business pillar at FreshDirect. What We Offer Compensation: Expected salary range of $135,824-$159,793 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
