Role Overview

We are looking for a visionary Head of Engineering β Retail Practice to spearhead our technology strategy and execution in the rapidly evolving retail landscape. This role combines deep engineering leadership with strong domain expertise to deliver transformative solutions across omnichannel commerce, digital stores, supply chain, customer experience, and data-driven retail. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader who can blend cutting-edge technologies with real-world retail challenges to create scalable, secure, and future-ready platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Domain Leadership
β’ Define and execute the technology vision for the Retail practice, aligned with business growth and client priorities.
β’ Anticipate industry trends (AI in retail, hyper-personalization, edge/IoT in stores, digital twins, metaverse retail, ESG in retail) and translate them into actionable engineering roadmaps.
β’ Collaborate with business leaders to shape offerings across omnichannel commerce, merchandising, supply chain, store operations, and customer engagement.
Engineering & Delivery Excellence
β’ Lead end-to-end engineering for retail platforms, products, and solutions β from architecture to scalable deployment.
β’ Ensure adoption of modern engineering practices (cloud-native, microservices, DevSecOps, API-first, data/AI-first).
β’ Drive accelerators, reusable frameworks, and reference architectures to speed up solution delivery.
Innovation & Emerging Tech
β’ Lead experimentation and incubation of new technologies such as generative AI, real-time personalization, computer vision, IoT-enabled smart stores, AR/VR shopping, and autonomous supply chains.
β’ Build strong partnerships with hyperscalers, retail tech ISVs, startups, and academia to bring innovation at scale.
Team Leadership
β’ Build, grow, and mentor high-performing engineering teams across cloud, data, platforms, and applications.
β’ Foster a culture of agility, experimentation, and customer-first engineering.
β’ Drive collaboration between product managers, designers, data scientists, and business consultants.
Client & Business Impact
β’ Engage directly with retail CxOs and technology leaders to shape transformation programs.
β’ Translate client pain points into differentiated, engineering-led solutions.
β’ Influence pre-sales, solutioning, and go-to-market initiatives with strong technical credibility.
Qualifications
β’ 15 to 20+ years of engineering and technology leadership experience, with at least 5+ years in the retail domain (retailers, e-commerce, CPG-retail intersection).
β’ Proven success in delivering large-scale retail transformation initiatives (commerce platforms, supply chain systems, personalization engines, loyalty programs).
β’ Strong understanding of Retail Domain Data Models and Data Domains (Data products) for various needs
β’ Expertise in retail technology ecosystems (Salesforce Commerce, SAP, Manhattan, Blue Yonder, Shopify, etc.) and modern data/AI platforms.
β’ Strong knowledge of customer data privacy, omnichannel architectures, and integration patterns.
β’ Excellent communication, executive presence, and ability to influence C-level stakeholders.

Pay:
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $180,000 to 300,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company. In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms. The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a "free time" PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
