Role description
Highspring, formerly known as Focus Search Partners has engaged in an exciting search with a rapidly growing, mission-driven organization with both nonprofit and entrepreneurial ventures. We are seeking an experienced Interim CFO to guide its finance function during a period of leadership transition and expansion. The role offers the opportunity to shape financial strategy for a unique hybrid model—balancing a strong community impact mission with the operational demands of e-commerce and consumer product startups.
The ideal Interim CFO profile:
Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, the Interim CFO will lead a talented finance staff—including a Controller, Senior Staff Accountant, and newly added AP role—while collaborating closely with an outsourced accounting partner. This role is pivotal in ensuring financial stability, maintaining compliance, supporting strategic growth initiatives, and preparing the finance function for long-term success under new leadership.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the finance and accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
• Lead budget vs. actuals analysis, KPI tracking, and financial performance reporting to the Board.
• Maintain clean audit processes and strong relationships with external auditors.
• Support strategic planning for both nonprofit programs and for-profit ventures.
• Refine financial structures to scale e-commerce and consumer product businesses.
• Collaborate closely with leadership during CEO and COO transitions.
• Serve as a steady, trusted advisor in a dynamic, high-change environment.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressive finance leadership, including nonprofit CFO or equivalent experience.
• Expertise in nonprofit accounting, compliance, and grant funding, with familiarity in for-profit operations.
• Strong knowledge of e-commerce, consumer products, and startup business models.
• Proven ability to lead through change, building trust and alignment across teams.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including Board-facing experience.
Our consultant will be required to be on a hybrid schedule. Weekly travel to start and will scale back after the engagement has launched.
