The Role The Prepared Foods & Bakery Manager develops and executes comprehensive category strategies to meet customer needs and achieve organizational goals. This role drives the innovation pipeline and assortment strategy, defines pricing approaches, leads vendor negotiations, and provides thought leadership on trends and product innovation. In addition, the manager fosters a consumer-centric selling culture through assortment planning, site merchandising, and pricing initiatives. The ideal candidate brings proven merchandising experience—including product sourcing, selection, eCommerce site strategies, and grocery supply chain knowledge—and is excited to join a team of passionate food experts at FreshDirect. What You’ll Do Category Strategy & Innovation • Develop and execute a comprehensive, cohesive category strategy that meets customer needs and aligns with organizational goals. • Lead the innovation pipeline for manufactured SKUs in partnership with R&D and Operations teams. • Manage assortment and selection for assigned categories, providing final approval on all assortment decisions. • Provide thought leadership and category expertise on trends, product innovation, and market opportunities. Vendor & Pricing Management • Lead vendor negotiations and cultivate effective, collaborative supplier relationships. • Establish base and promotional pricing for assigned categories to achieve sales, gross margin, and unit targets while aligning with FreshDirect’s on-site strategy. Performance Management & Consumer Focus • Drive daily selling activities with a consumer-centric focus through Assortment, Site Planning, and Pricing responsibilities. • Monitor and manage category performance, including Units per Order, Sales, Gross Margin, Scrap, and customer metrics. • What You’ll Bring • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations. • Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. • Project management experience, with the ability to lead mid-sized projects and contribute to cross-functional initiatives. • 5–8 years of experience in Food, Grocery Retail, eCommerce, or a related industry. • A genuine passion for food and understanding of consumer trends. • Ability to partner with peers across functions and drive results in a collaborative environment. What We Offer • Compensation: Expected salary range of $90,332-$106,273- per year, based on experience and qualifications.
