Job Overview The Principal, Customer & Digital Strategy & Operations, leads the end-to-end retail planning and execution process. This role ensures alignment between the retail plan and the overarching business plan, enabling high-fidelity execution across all retail events and initiatives that support Macy’s Digital business. This role reports to the Sr. Director, Digital Strategy & Operations and partners closely with Customer & Digital leadership and cross-functional teams to drive top digital growth initiatives through structured problem solving, analytical rigor, and collaborative execution. What You Will Do You will lead the strategic design and operational execution of the retail planning process, ensuring that trade plans are tightly aligned with business objectives and executed with precision across all channels and events. You will be responsible for building scalable processes, tools, and governance mechanisms that drive accountability, readiness, and continuous improvement. • Own the Retail Planning Process: Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the end-to-end (E2E) retail planning and audit process, ensuring consistency, transparency, and alignment across functions. • Guarantee Plan Fidelity: Ensure the trade plan reflects and supports the business plan, identifying and resolving gaps in execution through structured review mechanisms. • Build Event Readiness Tools: Create and manage tools and dashboards that track readiness for key retail events, enabling proactive issue resolution and cross-functional alignment. • Lead Execution Reviews: Design and facilitate recurring execution reviews (e.g., Digital Holiday Prototype, Quarterly Business Reviews, Weekly Business Reviews, intraday checkpoints) to monitor performance, drive accountability, and ensure high-fidelity execution. • Strengthen Planning Inputs: Develop OKR tracking frameworks and input quality metrics to ensure that retail plans are built on strong, data-driven foundations. • Drive Post-Mortem Reviews: Lead cross-functional post-event reviews to capture learnings, assess performance against plan, and inform future planning cycles. • Champion Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline planning workflows, improve toolsets, and elevate the overall quality and impact of retail execution. Skills You Will Need • Strategic Planning & Operational Excellence: Deep expertise in designing and leading complex, cross-functional planning processes that align trade strategy with business goals and drive measurable outcomes. • Retail & Event Execution Acumen: Strong understanding of retail rhythms, event planning, and execution dynamics across digital and physical channels, with a proven ability to anticipate challenges and drive readiness. • Process Design & Governance: Experience building scalable, repeatable processes and governance frameworks that ensure consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across planning cycles. • Analytical Rigor & Performance Tracking: Ability to develop and leverage tools, dashboards, and OKR frameworks to monitor input quality, execution fidelity, and post-event performance. • Cross-Functional Leadership: Skilled at influencing and aligning diverse teams—including digital, merchandising, analytics, and operations—around shared goals and execution standards. • Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead senior-level reviews, synthesize insights, and drive decision-making across stakeholders. • Change Leadership: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving transformation, with a mindset focused on innovation, simplification, and continuous improvement. • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Ideally also proficient in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Smart Sheet) Who You Are • A strategic and operational leader with deep experience in retail planning, trade strategy, and execution governance. • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in consulting and/or consumer-facing industries also encouraged to apply. • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel.
