Role description
The challenge
More than 1 in 4 adults in the UK are living with obesity, and this is only rising.
However, the health and weight-loss space is rapidly evolving; new weight-loss medications have revolutionised the industry and have the potential to improve millions of lives when combined with lifestyle and habit change.
That last point is critical, and this is where there's a lot of controversy in the industry at the moment; large numbers of online weight-loss providers and pharmacies have jumped on the bandwagon and offer weight-loss injections with no habit-change support; providing a temporary plaster rather than a more holistic long-term fix.
Alongside this, there is still a huge space for non-medication approaches to lifestyle change and weight loss.
Second Nature has been operating for almost 11 years; 8 of which have been providing our weight-loss and habit-change programmes to the NHS. These NHS contracts consist of local contracts (e.g. providing Second Nature to people living with type 2 diabetes) as well as national contracts (e.g. providing Second Nature to people at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes).
Alongside our NHS work, we have a private arm where people can purchase the Second Nature programme themselves: with or without medication. This has been operating as a competitor to the likes of Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Lighter Life, Cambridge Diet, etc; companies with whom we very much disagree with their philosophy and approach.
In the private space, we're currently positioned at the premium end of the market. We provide more intensive and supportive programme with fully trained dietitians and nutritionists. We get very good results, but we're more expensive.
We've also stayed laser focused on our internal philosophy of supporting people with habit change. We haven't strayed into adjacent product lines (e.g. Zoe Health and supplements) and we have no plans to do so in the future.
The challenge for this new growth marketing hire at Second Nature will be: how do you best build a brand that reinforces our DNA and philosophy in both the NHS (Second Nature is available to all) while simultaneously building a premium and high-end brand in the private market?
The Role
This is a full-stack and hands-on marketing role.
You'll be coming into an established B2C and B2B2C startup that has a long history of B2C marketing, but currently no formal marketing team. Current the performance marketing is managed by Mike (COO/Co-founder).
You'll be expected to jump head in to managing our performance marketing channels, email drips (managed in Braze), alongside working with our designer and growth marketing pod (2-3 engineers) to work on growth tests and our overall brand proposition/strategy.
There may be scope to hire an additional growth/performance marketer in the future, but you should assume you will be the main marketer in the team for the short term (6-12 months).
There is a lot of openness to how we develop the Second Nature brand and where we take it. This is a relatively unique and exciting opportunity to come and really drive the development of the brand proposition, and also how we scale it.
What you'll do
• Run the whole marketing at Second Nature e.g. running our performance marketing channels, email drips, and everything else
• Work with our growth marketing/engineering pod to ideate and run growth experiments
• Be in charge of developing and refining our overall brand proposition and positioning
• You'll report directly into Mike (co-founder & COO) but will largely have free reign to operate
Background and Experience
• Strong personal passion for health / habit change / lifestyle / weight loss
• Hands on performance marketing experience in Meta and Adwords
• Some level of startup/small-company experience, or agency experience working with startups
• Highly analytical and data driven
• Confidence that you thrive in a very fast paced, uncertain, and slightly chaotic environment
• The summary of the Second Nature culture for where people thrive. If you would view yourself as: smart, kind, and fun
Benefits
• Competitive salary
• Share options in a growing and profitable health-tech company
• 25 days holiday plus national holidays
• Hybrid working: 2 days/week in our London office
• Remote flexibility: work from abroad up to 4 weeks at a time (within 2-hour UK time zone)
• £200/year professional development budget, plus extra for role-specific training
• Salary Sacrifice and Cycle to Work schemes
• Quarterly in-person socials and company meet-ups
• A friendly, mission-driven team where your work really matters
To apply
Mike will be running the whole interview process. To apply for the role, please submit your CV and a covering letter (< 1 page). Not to give the game away, but the covering letter is probably the more important part about whether we'll progress to phone interview.
To manage expectations in advance, if you don't hear back from Mike before the end of August please assume it's a no for now (and also apologies in advance for not directly replying to every application).
