Role description
More than fifty years ago our founder pioneered the self-help workbook, which has become ubiquitous in evidence-based therapy. Today we are growing into a multimedia company with a digital products division responsible for online trainings and a SAAS platform—both for our core book audience of evidence-based therapists.
We’re looking for a creative, data-driven Social Media Specialist to drive conversation and discoverability of our books across social platforms. This role is perfect for someone who lives and breathes social media trends, understands the BookTok community, and knows how to turn engagement into measurable sales.
Core Responsibilities:
• Serve as author point of contact for 20+ book projects annually
• Drive growth and engagement for New Harbinger core brand and two subbrands—New Harbinger, Praxis, and TherapyAssist—across multiple platforms
• Develop and execute platform-specific strategies (especially TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts) to promote new and backlist titles.
• Coordinate with Head of Integrated Marketing to create and manage a content calendar aligned with book release schedules, author events, and cultural moments.
• Collaborate with authors, influencers, and internal teams to produce engaging, on-brand video content to support individual book projects.
• Monitor and engage with BookTok and other reading communities to identify trends and opportunities for organic engagement—balancing trend responsiveness with brand voice and values.
• Launch and manage paid social campaigns to amplify reach and drive conversions.
• Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
• Engagement rate (likes, shares, comments)
• Follower growth
• Click-through rate (CTR)
• Conversion rate to sales (via affiliate links, UTM tracking, etc.)
• ROI on paid campaigns
• Partner with sales and analytics teams to correlate social media activity with retail performance.
• Coordinate with the Publicity Manager to leverage media coverage and author interviews across social platforms.
• Stay up-to-date on platform algorithm changes, emerging tools, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience managing social media accounts, preferably in publishing, entertainment, or consumer brands.
• Proven success creating viral or high-performing content on TikTok or similar platforms.
• Strong video editing skills (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, or native platform tools).
• Excellent copywriting and storytelling abilities.
• Familiarity with social media analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Later, or native platform insights) and CRMs (Hubspot).
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Passion for books and deep familiarity with BookTok trends and creators.
• Experience working with influencers or managing creator partnerships.
• Knowledge of SEO and content marketing principles.
• Experience using affiliate marketing or e-commerce tracking tools.
Must be a resident of
Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin.
Compensation
Salary: $75k. Benefits include 401(k) with matching, ESOP retirement plan (after working 1,000 hours/year), Paid time off (vacation and sick time, prorated), Tuition reimbursement, Continuous career training through our HR learning portal and other live or online sources.
