By Joining Citi, you will become part of a global organisation whose mission is to serve as a trusted partner to our clients by responsibly providing financial services that enable growth and economic progress.
Team/Role Overview:
Cross-Border Payments is a key strength and differentiator for Citi, given the significant depth of the branch network and years of operating experience, many of them exceeding 100+ years. The depth of local operations coupled with years of experience dealing with regulators and multiple market participants, FMI and other network partners makes Citi’s Cross-Border business extremely robust and amongst the largest business in the industry as well as within the Citi’s Treasury and Trade Service (TTS) offering.
What you’ll do:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Payments Director to lead the Cross-Border Payments strategy, operations, and product development. This role will be critical in ensuring operational resilience, driving product innovation, and overseeing end-to-end project execution. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in payments ecosystems with strong leadership, communication, and cross functional collaboration skills. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the development of product plans, strategies, and tactics while coordinating product lines through product life cycles in coordination with the broader Product Management team. The overall objective of this role is to coordinate the promotion of products to develop new markets, increase share of market and obtain competitive position.
Responsibilities:
• Drive development and enhancement of payments products and services across cross-border segments.
• Build and maintain a robust operational resilience framework for payment systems, ensuring continuity, redundancy, and rapid recovery capabilities. Oversee incident management related to cross border payments in partnership with risk, technology, and compliance teams.
• Manage strategic program roadmap, development, launch, and marketing to gain maximum benefit from each product.
• Supervise day-to-day product management for core products such as product delivery, client experience, and client communication strategies as well as help the team prioritize, negotiate, and remove obstacles to achieve business results.
• Drive client value propositions, positioning, segmentation, pricing, targeting, channel strategies, and competitive differentiation to achieve preferred status as a partner to Citi clients.
• Lead large scale, cross functional payments initiatives from concept to implementation.
• Develop plans and execute functional strategies for a country, multiple countries, region, or business requiring coordination and integration across units as well as provide input into strategic decisions affecting job family or function within a region or business.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
What we’ll need from you:
• Significant years of relevant payments experience across product management or operations.
• In-depth knowledge of payments, cash management, SWIFT, FX, ecommerce, and emerging payment flows.
• Strong interpersonal skills and credibility to lead and influence wide ranging stakeholder base.
• Problem solving skills; organisation, ability to multitask and apply good judgement. Ability to efficiently prioritise and work under pressure across time zones to meet deadlines and client commitments.
• Strong execution skills, thorough follow-through & attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; strong presentation skills and competence in MS Office.
• Good understanding of the competitive landscape, client requirements, and other competing solutions would be a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
