Role description
The front-end focused Web Developer is a technical specialist who’s passionate about creating exceptional website experiences that drive real business results. This role combines advanced technical skills with a proactive mindset, translating complex requirements into clean, performant solutions whilst making the difficult manageable for our clients. Working within Laser Red’s collaborative development team, you’ll help clients stay “ahead of the click” by thinking two steps ahead – spotting potential issues before they pop up and finding innovative solutions that balance cutting-edge techniques with reliable, scalable code. While WordPress and WooCommerce form the core of this role, you’ll also have exciting opportunities to work with other cutting-edge platforms, including Laravel, Statamic, Magento, and Aero Commerce – broadening your skillset and working on diverse, challenging projects that keep you at the forefront of web development. Responsibilities Within this role, some of the key areas you will be responsible for are… WordPress & WooCommerce Development Build custom, responsive WordPress and WooCommerce websites using modern development practices Translate Adobe XD & Figma designs and wireframes into clean, maintainable front-end code Extend WordPress and WooCommerce functionality to meet specific client requirements without plugin bloat Optimise product displays, checkout flows, and site performance to maximise conversions Create custom WordPress themes, page templates, and lightweight plugins Implement performance optimisation techniques including caching, lazy loading, and Core Web Vitals improvements Multi-Platform Development Opportunities Work with cutting-edge platforms including Laravel, Statamic, Magento, and Aero Commerce Develop front-end solutions across diverse technology stacks and frameworks Collaborate on ambitious projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible with modern web development Expand your expertise across multiple platforms whilst maintaining specialisation in WordPress/WooCommerce Technical Excellence & Innovation Write semantic HTML, PHP, modern CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript (ES6+) following best practices Ensure cross-browser compatibility and responsive design across all devices Integrate third-party APIs, payment gateways, and external services Maintain version control using Git and collaborative development workflows Champion accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles Stay current with WordPress core updates, security practices, and emerging technologies Maintain bespoke Laravel sites, update core & third party packages via composer and carry out robust testing Client Collaboration & Communication Participate in client review calls, project demos, and technical discussions with transparency and honesty Translate complex technical concepts into simple, understandable terms – making the difficult manageable Collaborate with designers, project managers, and back-end developers as part of our collaborative spirit Provide proactive technical input during project planning, thinking two steps ahead of potential challenges Build genuine relationships with clients through honest communication and reliable delivery Quality Assurance & Best Practices Conduct thorough testing across browsers, devices, and user scenarios – doing the right thing every time Implement and maintain coding standards that ensure scalable, maintainable solutions Contribute to internal development processes with fresh ideas and continuous improvement mindset Share skills and knowledge with colleagues, celebrating wins and learning from setbacks together Embrace change and adapt to new technologies, tools, and client requirements. Essential The absolute must-haves: 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience, including HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript & PHP.
