The responsibility of the Buyer II is to develop merchandise assortments and strategies to drive profitable category sales and productivity, while ensuring product value, quality and styling. The buyer holds a leadership role within the category management team (CMT). Working within the CMT, the buyer is responsible for all aspects of assortment planning, selection, maintenance and promotion, for designated product categories. What You’ll Do: Category Leadership: • Collaborate with leadership to define and implement the strategic vision for your category. • Stay ahead of the curve by analyzing market trends, customer needs, and shifting priorities. • Review business performance weekly, adjusting strategies to maximize success. • Contribute to developing financial and marketing plans that align with your product category’s goals. • Lead impactful business reviews, delivering valuable insights to guide leadership decisions. • Empower and mentor your team through training and career development. Product Development & Innovation: • Curate and acquire quality products that align with customer demand and business goals. • Keep a finger on the pulse of industry trends, and identify innovative product opportunities. • Bring new product concepts to life, testing them in key markets with the potential for wider expansion. • Own the product lifecycle from concept to clearance, ensuring seamless execution. • Build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with vendors to drive product innovation. Assortment & Inventory Management: • Collaborate on creating and maintaining engaging assortments for our e-commerce platforms. • Work alongside inventory analysts to ensure the right products are in stock at the right time. • Manage vendor negotiations, including product returns and purchasing agreements. • Oversee cost structures to ensure competitive pricing while maximizing profitability. Collaboration & Engagement: • Partner across departments—marketing, visual display, and advertising—to ensure products are showcased in the best possible light. • Lead the merchandising and marketing of key campaigns, ensuring alignment across all touchpoints. • Collaborate with sourcing, financial planning, and store operations teams to execute seamless product launches and in-store experiences. • Work cross-functionally with store teams, DC, and planning to bring innovative projects to life, from test markets to full product rollouts. What We’re Looking For: • 3-5 years in buying or a similar role, with a track record of driving product success. • Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills; confident with numbers and data-driven decisions. • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). • Proven ability to lead teams and mentor others to achieve collective goals. • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and changing market conditions. • Willingness to travel domestically with occasional weekend trips.
