Our client is a 50-year-old, highly profitable legacy business that has become a trusted leader in wholesale auctions for heavy machinery, farming equipment, construction tools, and more. With a strong national footprint and loyal customer base, the company is entering an exciting new phase, transforming into a modern digital platform and e-commerce marketplace.
We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead this transformation. This is a rare opportunity to architect the future of a category leader by building out scalable, secure, and high-performance marketplace infrastructure from the ground up.
What Youβll Do:
β’ Lead Digital Modernization: Re-architect and rebuild the companyβs web stack to support a scalable e-commerce and auction marketplace, including real-time bidding, inventory search, payment, and logistics tools.
β’ Platform Strategy: Spearhead the development of a unified B2B/B2C platform for wholesale equipment transactions across buyers, sellers, and brokers.
β’ Tech Team Leadership: Recruit and mentor a high-performing engineering team, balancing in-house development with strategic partners and vendors.
β’ Innovation & UX: Drive innovation around customer experience, mobile, web, and backend, making buying and selling equipment as easy as buying on Amazon or Carvana.
β’ Product Collaboration: Work closely with executive leadership, product, operations, and sales to prioritize and deliver tech initiatives that drive business growth.
β’ Data & Infrastructure: Establish cloud infrastructure, DevOps, data warehousing, and modern APIs to unlock new revenue opportunities via digital services, analytics, and integrations.
β’ Security & Compliance: Build with integrity and security-first mindset to protect user data, financial transactions, and sensitive auction details.
Ideal Profile:
β’ Proven success as a CTO or VP of Engineering leading e-commerce, marketplace, or SaaS platform builds (0β1 and scaling phases).
β’ Strong technical experience in modern web architecture (e.g., AWS/GCP, microservices, API-first design, serverless, headless commerce, etc.).
β’ Deep understanding of e-commerce, digital payments, search, logistics, ERP/CRM integrations, and multi-vendor marketplace complexities.
β’ Background in scaling digital platforms to $100M+ GMV or similar is a strong plus.
β’ Thrives in transformation environments, able to balance legacy constraints with greenfield innovation.
