Role description
Heatmap News is seeking a Digital Marketing Manager to lead the strategy, implementation, and optimization of digital marketing across all digital channels. The Digital Marketing Manager will have a successful track record of creating and executing  digital marketing campaigns and delivering measurable results against performance metrics. This position will oversee the implementation and performance to drive the marketing funnel from brand awareness to conversion across digital, from search to social, email and SMS. This person will also lead our email marketing strategies, with duties including running email marketing campaigns end-to-end, managing email databases, and creating content.  The digital marketing manager is expected to build strong cross-functional relationships with the editorial team with visibility to senior leadership. The right person for this role loves data and analytics and should be passionate about media, digital marketing and emerging trends. The position reports directly to the Chief Growth Officer KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Build and optimize every step of the subscription marketing funnel.  Influence customer behavior when onsite through tools and testing to optimize conversions and revenues. • Work cross-functionally to build and lead, evergreen, and seasonal omni channel campaigns to drive reader habit and increase product adoption. • Conceptualize, create, implement, and execute multiple weekly email marketing campaigns  using email marketing best practices • Using Heatmap’s voice, write compelling copy to engage with our audience • Maintain customer marketing lists and segment the email database to cater to evolving business needs • Identify target audiences and grow our email list while working to minimize list decay / unsubscribes • Measure results and optimize the engagement nurturing workflows for these segments to convert • Develop documentation and road maps for processes, A/B tests, and promotions that succeed through email • Manage and optimize budget, including forecasting, pacing, and efficiency updates to meet subscription registration, conversion and retention targets. • Represent the customer: advocate for seamless customer journeys, champion the value of subscription/membership. • Provide regular performance reporting, insights, and analytics with strong data storytelling • Serve as go-to digital marketing generalist. • Manage digital marketing tools. • Stay current on evolving digital trends, technology, and best practices to present opportunities and bring new activities to life. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a data-driven marketing, ecommerce, or media/publishing role with a focus on digital marketing, including two or more of the following core functions: email, performance marketing, or social (paid, organic). • Minimum 3+ years successfully managing agency partners and client/vendor relationships, including invoicing. • Technically proficient and willing to learn and manage new platforms to help build subscription funnel to increase readership and paid subscriptions. • Experience in delivering campaigns that use a variety of marketing channels. • Knowledge of Email Marketing Platforms, Hubspot a plus, with the desire to learn and master. • A mindset that is curious, data literate and digital first. • Proactive problem solver.  The ability to work quickly and manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment. • A passion for and understanding the Heatmap News brand, climate change, our audience, customers, and products. • Proven experience working with analytics and testing strategies to measure and communicate marketing impact. Highly proficient in the use of third-party analytics, reporting tools, and digital marketing platforms. • Strong written and verbal communications skills to effectively interact across business functions and synthesize information to senior leadership. • Strong project management capabilities and highly organized with strong attention to detail. • Autonomous, accountable, and self-starter.
