Role description
About the Opportunity Own and scale Walmart Marketplace’s newest growth initiative —Collectible Toys & Pop Culture. With founder‑level autonomy and Fortune‑1 resources, you’ll set the vision, build the team, and deliver the P&L that will make Walmart the #1 destination for collectors. You’ll move with startup speed—laying the foundations, influencing site and product roadmaps, testing new engagement models like live commerce, striking deals and landing exclusives, and launching fan activations at events such as Comic‑Con—while leveraging Walmart’s unmatched reach and logistics. If you live at the intersection of pop culture and marketplace innovation, and if building is your passion, this is your career‑defining role. What You'll Own You will have full ownership of the category's success. Your work will be consolidated into four key pillars: · Strategic Leadership & P&L Ownership: o Develop the end-to-end business strategy and vision for the Collectible Toys category. o Own the full P&L, driving Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) and profitability through rigorous data analysis, forecasting, and annual/quarterly business planning. o Architect the master assortment strategy, identifying and launching new sub-categories (e.g., vintage toys, board games, die-cast) to win the market. · Ecosystem & Partnership Development: o Build the brand acquisition and growth playbook, forging relationships with iconic brands like LEGO and Mattel, and cult favorites like NECA and Bandai. o Forge high-impact strategic partnerships with IP holders, studios, influencers, and major industry players. o Build a seller-acquisition engine in concert with Business Development, creating tailored growth strategies for brands, retailers, and SMBs. · Go-to-Market & Community: o Partner with Marketing and Site Merchandising to create a best-in-class customer experience that speaks authentically to the collector community. o Pioneer innovative growth channels, including social commerce, live-streaming, and experiential campaigns at major industry events and trade shows. o Serve as the face of Walmart Collectibles, embedding yourself in the community to understand the pulse of the industry and build brand loyalty. · Team & Cross-Functional Leadership: o Recruit and coach a high-performing team of Category & Account Managers. o Champion your category vision across the organization, influencing product and engineering roadmaps to build new tools for sellers and collectors. o Serve as the key thought leader, collaborating with Walmart's 1st-party merchandising teams to create a cohesive and dominant omni-channel strategy. Who You Are · P&L owner & scaler—grew a marketplace category from <$50 M to $300 M+ GMV. · Customer & seller champion—relationship‑driven, data‑guided, outcome‑obsessed. · Builder who executes—thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and delivers results. · Influential communicator—rallies execs and cross‑functional partners behind a vision. · Passionate fan—toys, collectibles, pop culture energize you. Minimum Requirements · 10+ yrs category/marketplace leadership with full P&L accountability. · 5+ yrs leading and developing teams. · Demonstrated ability to develop and execute complex business strategies and roadmaps. · Proven ability to negotiate high-value brand or licensing deals. · Demonstrated success navigating a complex matrix and influencing senior executives · Advanced analytics skills (Looker, Tableau, or equivalent). · MBA or equivalent advanced degree. · ~20 % travel (industry events + Bentonville HQ). Bonus Qualifications · Deep network across collectibles licensing/IP owners (Disney, Marvel, etc.). · Live-commerce / creator-economy expertise – Hands‑on launch of live‑commerce or creator‑economy programs (TikTok Shop, Whatnot, Twitch) · Community credibility – Active participation in major conventions (SDCC, NYCC) or collector forums; able to “speak the language”.
