About the Role
We are seeking a data driven, commercially minded Director, Insights & Category Development to lead the charge in transforming raw data into strategic foresight. This leader integrates consumer, shopper, guest (Pressed™ stores), D2C, category, and internal performance insights into clear, actionable strategies that power our Annual Operating Plan (AOP), innovation pipeline, promotional calendar, and revenue growth. Reporting into Wholesale Marketing, you will influence decisions across Marketing, Sales, R&D, Finance, and Executive Leadership, translating data into compelling stories that unlock growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Insight & Foresight
• Proactively monitor internal and external sales data to anticipate market shifts, customer behavior trends, emerging business opportunities helping identify both risk & opportunity.
• Deliver insights that shape sales strategy, drive commercial decision-making, and influence executive-level conversations.
• Identify relevant industry trends and emerging market opportunities that can be leveraged by the Sales Team for customer engagement and account expansion
Category Management
• Build category leadership narratives for all key customers and executive team rooted in category management principles.
• Analyze sell-in and sell-through trends, syndicated data (NIQ, Circana, SPINS), and competitive performance to drive revenue growth and optimize channel, assortment, promotional mix.
• Create insight-driven selling tools and resources that arm Sales for the sell-in process—covering category reviews, in-store execution, and shopper marketing programs.
Guest & Shopper Insights, R&D Partnership
• Mine path to purchase across wholesale, retail and D2C data to translate into strategic frameworks, and go/no‑go scorecards to support marketing, sales. Help steer channel strategy, flavor, format, and pack decisions to accelerate growth.
• Combine syndicated consumption panels (e.g., Numerator, NIQ, SPINS, TriLens) with custom qual & quant (segmentation, U&A, sensory, conjoint) to pinpoint who to target and why.
Annual Operating Planning
• Support Annual Operating Planning by setting category goals, velocity, and distribution targets by channel and customer alongside our Finance Team.
• Recommend promotional & pricing mechanics that maximize incrementality and ROI, leveraging post-event analysis to refine strategy and set guardrails by channel, pack and retailer.
Vendor Management
• Manage and own relationships with data providers, ensuring clean data flows and evaluating new tools that enhance insight delivery.
• Govern budget for syndicated data providers, panels, research, and analytics tools to support growth.
• Partner with Finance on the design and adoption of self-service BI dashboards (Tableau, Datarails, Power BI) that connect syndicated, panel, shipment, digital, and guest data into a single source of truth and democratize insights across the organization.
Team Collaboration & Insight to Action Storytelling
• Serve as a trusted, collaborative partner across Marketing, Sales, Retail, R&D, and Finance, turning complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that drive faster decisions and measurable growth.
• Craft executive ready narratives that simplify complexity and inspire action.
Leadership & Team Development
• Manage our syndicated data consultant, coach cross functional peers on insights best practices.
• Champion a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and fact-based decision making.
Required Qualifications
• 7+ years in consumer/shopper insights, analytics, or strategy within CPG—beverage strongly preferred.
• Expertise in syndicated data platforms, primary research design, and ecommerce analytics.
• Advanced storytelling skills with PowerPoint, Tableau/Looker, Excel, Power BI.
• Strong project management skills, ability to work cross-functionally across departments.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate data into commercial action.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with acute attention to detail.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior category management experience for CPG led business required.
• People leadership experience.
• MBA or master’s in Insights, Data Science, or related field preferred.
