Role description
Our client is seeking a forward-thinking, performance-driven Head of Search Strategy to lead and evolve their SEM and SEO efforts across all digital platforms. This is a high-impact senior leadership role responsible for owning and advancing paid and organic search strategy including Google Ads, Shopping campaigns, SEO, and the emerging frontier of AI-assisted and contextual search. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader and cross-functional collaborator, equally comfortable executing and overseeing, and has deep expertise in retail and e-commerce search operations. This role will be central in driving profitable growth, enhancing search visibility, managing brand reputation across search engines, and adapting to the next generation of AI-integrated search experiences. The position reports to executive leadership and offers the opportunity to shape both tactical execution and long-term innovation across performance channels. This role is considered to be Hybrid, requiring 1-2 days per week in-office to work and collaborate with the leadership team and cross-functional partners. โ€ข The salary range is $275,000 - $300,000 based on experience plus bonus. Responsibilities: โ€ข Lead holistic paid and organic search strategy, integrating SEM (Search, Shopping, Display, and Video) with modern SEO and AI search trends such as Google SGE, Bing Copilot, and ChatGPT browsing โ€ข Own and evolve Shopping campaign architecture, feed optimization, Merchant Center health, and cross-category targeting to ensure product visibility, profitability, and incremental customer acquisition โ€ข Drive long-tail and non-brand keyword strategy for both SEM and SEO, identifying overlooked query segments and scaling performance cost-efficiently โ€ข Oversee reputation management as it relates to search, ensuring branded search results, featured snippets, and review aggregates reflect accurate and favorable brand positioning โ€ข Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Content, Product, Merchandising, CRM, and Tech to unify messaging, align landing pages, and embed SEO and SEM best practices into site structure, metadata, and campaign messaging โ€ข Utilize and synthesize data across platforms including GA4, Search Console, Looker, SA360, and SEO tools to inform strategy, reporting, and leadership insights, clearly communicating trends and performance โ€ข Build and optimize multi-million-dollar paid search budgets with a rigorous eye toward cost efficiency, revenue impact, and margin contribution โ€ข Partner with analytics and finance teams to create robust forecasting models, scenario testing, and measurement frameworks that capture blended lift, new customer acquisition, and lifetime value impact โ€ข Champion test-and-learn experimentation across ad copy, bidding strategies, landing pages, and new ad formats. Run structured experiments and share learnings with clarity โ€ข Stay ahead of emerging AI capabilities in search marketing, integrating AI tools for keyword research, content scaling, dynamic bidding, and performance monitoring Qualifications: โ€ข BA or BS in Marketing, Business, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree is a plus โ€ข 10 or more years of hands-on experience in SEM and SEO with a strong track record of managing search strategy within a retail or e-commerce environment โ€ข Deep expertise in Google Ads including Search, Shopping, PMax, SA360, Merchant Center, Google Analytics, and SEO platforms such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, and Screaming Frog โ€ข Working knowledge of how AI and LLM-powered search is reshaping visibility, click behavior, and content frameworks โ€ข Strong understanding of data modeling, attribution, and performance reporting, with experience working closely with analytics and BI teams โ€ข Direct experience running and scaling Shopping campaigns, including feed auditing, segmentation, and bidding optimization โ€ข Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence cross-functional teams in high-growth, fast-moving environments โ€ข Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical details into clear strategic business narratives If you meet the required qualifications and are interested in this role, please apply today.
