About Us
We are a startup revolutionizing beauty with a purpose; create the industry standard of “clean”. Our premium skincare, makeup, and body care formulations combine uncompromising safety, efficacy and environmental responsibility. And our vision transcends products. We are committed to inspiring confident women (and others) to recognize their collective power to create meaningful change. Our innovative community-commerce ecosystem connects customers, beauty enthusiasts, and loyalists, allowing each person to align with our brand in ways that authentically reflect their values and aspirations. From our formulas to our advocacy efforts to our community connection, we lead clean.
In This Role You Will
• Take ownership of planning, architecture, and hands-on implementation of key systems and features across our e-commerce and operational platforms.
• Operate as a strong individual contributor while laying the groundwork for scalable engineering practices and future team growth.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, operations, and external partners to deliver thoughtful, high-impact solutions.
• Lead technical direction and decision-making for projects and integrations involving Shopify, Celigo, NetSuite, and other connected platforms.
• Develop and maintain reliable APIs, backend services, and system integrations.
• Monitor, debug, and resolve system issues across the stack, ensuring performance, accuracy, and reliability.
• As the team grows, provide technical guidance through code reviews, design feedback, and mentorship, helping to shape a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture.
• Help define and improve engineering workflows, tooling, and documentation across the organization.
Success In This Role Looks Like
• You have delivered high-quality, maintainable code for key business systems including Shopify integrations, backend services, or order flows, with minimal oversight.
• You have built trust across engineering, product, and operations by delivering on timelines and communicating clearly.
• You have contributed architectural guidance that balances scale, simplicity, and speed, becoming a trusted voice for technical decisions.
• You have turned ambiguous requirements into actionable plans by scoping MVPs, documenting decisions, and driving execution.
• You have helped define engineering standards and contributed to a strong culture of collaboration, ownership, and learning.
• You have improved more than just code by enhancing tooling, processes, documentation, and the overall team experience.
Experience
• 6+ years of experience as a professional software engineer
• With at least 1–2 years in a lead or senior technical role.
Skills
• Proficiency in backend development using modern technologies/languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or SQL.
• Experience owning projects from technical design through delivery, ideally within e-commerce, subscription, or systems integration environments.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Shopify (Storefront/Admin APIs), NetSuite, Celigo, and Recharge is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to learn new platforms quickly. We value adaptability and problem-solving over specific stack experience.
• Strong understanding of API design, systems architecture, and scalable backend patterns.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments. We currently use Azure in a limited capacity and remain flexible to expand platforms as needed.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across disciplines and time zones.
Bonus Points For
• Experience in direct-to-consumer or mission-driven companies.
• Exposure to event-driven architecture or pub/sub messaging patterns.
• Comfort working across both backend and frontend, even if you specialize in backend.
Our Culture
We believe in working together with curiosity, humility, and purpose. We foster a collaborative environment where all voices are welcome, no idea is too small, and experimentation is encouraged. We value transparency, kindness, and direct communication. As a remote team, we’re intentional about building trust and connection in everything we do.
