Role description
Role: Senior Network Security Engineer Location: Issaquah, WA (Hybrid with 3 days) or Chicago, IL(100% onsite) Contract To hire Role Summary: Seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer with deep expertise in edge security, CDN platforms, and Fastly to support and enhance its global network security posture. This role is pivotal in protecting member experience and enterprise applications at scale, ensuring content delivery is optimized and secure across digital properties. Key Responsibilities: • Lead Fastly CDN and WAF configurations, rule management, and troubleshooting for client’s eCommerce and enterprise platforms. • Collaborate with application developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to implement secure-by-design principles at the edge. • Monitor and respond to security events, DDoS attacks, and traffic anomalies leveraging Fastly’s security tools and real-time logging. • Create and enforce edge-based security policies to protect APIs, web apps, and data flows. • Design and implement edge computing strategies to improve performance, reduce latency, and secure global traffic. • Integrate Fastly with SIEM and logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog) for visibility and incident correlation. • Assist in audits, vulnerability assessments, and compliance efforts (e.g., PCI DSS, SOC 2). • Continuously evaluate emerging threats, technologies, and trends in CDN and edge security. Required Qualifications: • 8+ years of experience in network security or CDN engineering, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience with Fastly. • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP/2, BGP, and CDN architecture. • Expertise in WAF policy management and real-time traffic inspection. • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (Terraform, GitHub Actions, or similar). • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation. • Experience with global content delivery and regional latency optimization. • Ability to troubleshoot complex edge cases between client, CDN, origin, and backend services. • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications: • Fastly Certified Engineer or Architect. • Experience with multi-CDN strategies (e.g., Akamai, Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront). • Prior experience securing APIs and GraphQL endpoints. • Familiarity with enterprise cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure).
