This role will be part of the Personalization Services Team, which is responsible for developing and managing advanced REST services used to personalize the online user journey across Best Buy’s dotcom platforms. The team focuses on building highly scalable, performant APIs and pipelines that are deployed to multiple public cloud data centers, leveraging Agile practices for rapid and effective delivery. Position Summary As a Principal Java Developer on the Personalization Services Team, you will work in a high-performing engineering group that collaborates with business system analysts, product managers, and other engineers to design, develop, and deliver innovative solutions for Best Buy’s e-commerce platforms. This role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on development, and a DevOps mindset to ensure scalability, resilience, and high performance in production environments. You will be expected to pair program with senior engineers, contribute to test-driven development practices, and actively participate in Agile ceremonies. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain highly scalable and performant applications and APIs to support personalization services. • Ensure applications account for critical factors such as state, session management, caching, concurrency, threading, messaging, and inter-system dependencies. • Develop RESTful web services using Groovy, Java, Jersey, and Spring frameworks. • Collaborate closely with product managers, BSAs, and cross-functional teams to validate requirements and deliver functionality. • Contribute to a DevOps culture by supporting continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring practices. • Maintain strong adherence to Agile principles, including TDD and pair programming. Required Skills and Qualifications • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development. • Proven experience designing and developing scalable, high-performing applications. • Advanced expertise in REST web services using Groovy, Java, Jersey, and Spring. • Strong understanding of modern software development techniques, patterns, and processes. • Hands-on experience with concurrency, session management, caching, and inter-system dependencies. • Experience working in Agile environments with TDD and pair programming. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience. Preferred Skills • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) products such as Data Flow, CloudSQL, BigQuery, AI Platform. • Exposure to machine learning libraries and frameworks. • Development experience in Mac OS and/or IntelliJ. • Familiarity with NoSQL data stores such as Riak or Cassandra. • Experience with Splunk for monitoring and troubleshooting. • Working knowledge of open-source tools and platforms (Apache, Tomcat, etc.). • Background in performance testing and tuning of web services. • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google App Engine, Hadoop). • Knowledge of DevOps tools and infrastructure management solutions (Chef, Puppet, OpenStack).
