What you'll do...
We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join our science team and develop state-of-the-art models to power personalization across Walmartβs multiple international markets. Our mission is to provide our customers with the most delightful user experience throughout their online shopping journey with us. We create powerful AI and ML powered solutions for highly intricate real-world problems. You will be working on these industry-defining problems and be able to push the frontiers of Search Science by advancing areas including information retrieval, search, recommendation systems, natural language processing, optimization, algorithms and customer-facing large systems and service designs.

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.
What you'll do:
β’ Partner with other data scientists, engineers and product managers to design, train, test and deploy machine learning models.
β’ Work on projects with substantial ambiguity and translate business and engineering requirements to identify and define a clear roadmap to deliver the ML models.
β’ Perform rigorous offline and A/B testing of your models and communicate your findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and through written communications.
β’ Bring in bleeding-edge academic research and industry practices and demonstrate originality and creativity in developing novel solutions for Search.
β’ You will help maintain models, improve them as needed to bring in cutting-edge research, within a highly scalable infrastructure.
β’ You will mentor early-career data scientists, work as a tech lead and technology expert within the organization.
β’ You are strongly encouraged to publish your research and novel findings in internal and external research and industry conferences and journals, and file patent applications.
What you'll bring:
β’ Have a MS/PhD in relevant technical degree (preferably Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering etc.) with 6+ years of relevant work experience.
β’ Must have a deep background in NLP, Recommendation Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Optimization, Algorithm and Software development.
β’ It is strongly preferred that you have prior knowledge of Search or Recommendation Systems related technology and Generative AI.
β’ Sound knowledge of Python, SQL, PySpark, Machine Learning Libraries, Big Data processing systems in cloud environment is expected.
β’ A track record of building ML models or delivering impactful customer-facing products as tech lead and mentoring early-career data scientists.
β’ Experience of publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals or patent filings.
