Role description
About Us
Desert Cactus is a high growth company specializing in licensed and branded merchandise for universities, professional sports teams, kid’s brands, and more. Selling across e-commerce, retail, and institutional markets, our success is built on creativity, hustle, and delivering quality at scale—and we’re just getting started.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a hands-on, visually driven merchandising professional who knows how to create product presentations that sell. This role is all about performance—how the right imagery, layout, and merchandising choices drive measurable sales increases, both online and in-person.
The Visual Content Merchandiser will own how our products show up across Amazon listings, bookstore catalogs, trade show booths, and partner presentations. You’ll work closely with design, product development, and operations to ensure every visual touchpoint is strategic, polished, and results oriented. This role is based in-office five days a week at our Rolling Meadows, IL (NW suburbs of Chicago) location off of Route 53 and I-90.
Key Responsibilities
• Amazon Content & Merchandising: Direct product imagery, lifestyle photography, infographics, A+ content strategy, as well as Amazon storefronts and landing pages. Collaborate with internal designers and consultants to ensure listings are visually optimized for sales impact, not just aesthetics.
• Trade Show Visual Strategy: Plan and execute booth layouts and product displays for ~5 annual trade shows, including booth setup, and logistics, signage, product selection, and on-site presentation.
• Retail & Catalog Merchandising: Partner with product development and sales teams to determine product assortments for specific audiences (e.g., bookstore buyers vs. student consumers) and guide how those products are visually presented in catalogs and sales sheets.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Amazon Catalog Manager, supply chain, production, and creative teams to align visuals with product launches and campaign goals.
• Performance-Driven Approach: Track the impact of visual changes on sales and use data to guide future merchandising strategies.
• Creative Direction: Provide clear feedback to designers on image styles, layouts, and asset needs; maintain brand consistency while tailoring visuals for each channel.
• Event Execution: Be on-site for key trade shows to oversee setup, ensure visual excellence, and troubleshoot in real time.
• Light Social Media Support: Occasionally support visual assets for quarterly newsletters, LinkedIn posts about product announcements & launches, as well as other media channels like Instagram.
Qualifications
• 3–5+ years in visual merchandising, product presentation, or e-commerce content management
• Proven ability to direct visual strategy that drives measurable sales results
• Experience collaborating with designers and cross-functional teams
• Strong understanding of how to adapt visuals for different audiences and channels
• Detail-oriented, feedback-friendly, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Willingness to travel ~10% for trade shows and partner events
Benefits & Pay:
• Five days a week on-site
• Salary Range - $75,000 to $90,000 annually
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Defined benefit plan with profit sharing
• 90% company-paid health care coverage
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• 15 days of PTO
