Role description
Mindfeeder is a fast-growing, tech-savvy digital marketing agency based in Chillicothe, MO (serving clients nationwide). Our mission: empower SMBs with high-end web design, SEO, and digital marketing solutions at affordable rates.
What really sets us apart is our culture. We’re innovators and “cool nerds” at heart – a team of friendly experts who are obsessed with mastering our craft. We embrace new tech like AI to work smarter and boost creativity. At Mindfeeder, being on the cutting edge isn’t a buzzword – it’s how we operate, whether it’s using ChatGPT to speed up coding or Midjourney & Sora for quick design concepts. We value transparency, continuous learning, and nerdy passions – you’ll fit right in if you love geeking out about the latest tech or your favorite new game or music record in the same breath as web design.
Role Overview – What You’ll Do
We are looking for a Web Designer/Developer with a focus on WordPress & Elementor to join our team. In this role, you’ll take full ownership of turning ideas and content into beautiful, high-performing websites. That means working from a blank WordPress install and building out complete sites using Elementor and its Theme Builder, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for custom content, and RankMath for SEO. Using Elementor’s Theme Builder, you’ll create global templates (headers, footers, blog archives, single post/page templates, etc.) ensuring consistency across the site. You’ll set up custom post types and custom fields with ACF to make content management a breeze.
You’ll enjoy flexible hours and remote work. We care about deliverables, not punching a clock – as long as you meet timelines and create awesome work, you control your schedule. Over time, this role is expected to grow into part-time and then full-time employment. We’re not just hiring for today; we’re investing in someone who can grow with us. Down the road, you could be leading a small team of junior designers/devs, setting standards and training others in the Mindfeeder way.
Key Responsibilities
• Design & Build WordPress Websites: Create modern, responsive websites using WordPress + Elementor. You’ll build pages and page templates with Elementor’s builder, ensuring pixel-perfect design alignment with provided mockups or reference sites.
• Use Elementor Theme Builder: Develop site-wide templates (headers, footers, single post templates, archive layouts, loop items) within Elementor’s Theme Builder.
• Custom Post Types & ACF: Implement custom post types and custom fields using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for dynamic content (e.g., team member profile & project catalogs beyond standard posts).
• Styling & CSS: Write custom CSS (and a bit of HTML when needed) to refine the look and fix any styling issues that Elementor can’t handle out-of-the-box.
• Content Integration: Take content from Google Docs/Sheets and seamlessly integrate it into web pages. You’ll format text, images, and media in a visually appealing way, following our content briefs and any SEO guidelines.
• On-Page SEO Optimization: Using RankMath (or similar SEO plugin), optimize each page’s SEO settings. This includes writing or inputting meta titles & descriptions, setting up proper heading structures, etc.
• Quality Assurance & Testing: Preview and test your work across devices and browsers. Ensure sites are mobile-friendly and performant. Identify and fix bugs or layout issues.
• Site Launch & Hosting Setup: When a project is ready, help launch it! This means updating DNS settings (often via Cloudflare) to point the domain to our servers, setting up SSL certificates, and working with our hosting environment. We use RunCloud to manage servers, so you’ll deploy sites through it.
• Maintain Documentation: Update project documentation in Notion as needed – e.g., writing simple how-to guides for clients or documenting any custom code. Also log tasks and update progress in Jira (our project management tool) so the team stays in the loop.
• Collaborate & Communicate: Work closely with our founder and team
• Leverage AI & Internal Tools: Use AI tools to boost your productivity. For instance, use ChatGPT to generate a snippet of code or to brainstorm design ideas, or an AI image tool to create a quick graphic. We have some internal AI-powered utilities as well – you’ll be encouraged to utilize them. Essentially, work smart and take advantage of the latest tech.
• Multiple Projects & Time Management: Juggle several web projects at once, at different stages
Required Skills & Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in web design/development, with a strong focus on WordPress.
• Expertise in WordPress & Elementor: You have built numerous WordPress sites and are very comfortable with Elementor page builder. You know how to use Elementor’s Theme Builder to create templates, and you understand when to use Elementor widgets vs. custom HTML/CSS.
• Solid HTML5 & CSS3 skills: While Elementor handles a lot, you know how to hand-code HTML/CSS to troubleshoot or achieve custom designs. You understand responsive design, flexbox/grid layouts, and maybe even a bit of animation or interaction via CSS.
• Experience with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields): You can set up custom fields and post types in WordPress to extend functionality beyond blog posts.
• Basic JavaScript knowledge: You’re not expected to be a front-end JS developer, but you should be able to handle small scripts or jQuery snippets when Elementor or plugins need a tweak.
• SEO and Plugin Knowledge: Familiarity with on-page SEO best practices. Direct experience with RankMath to configure page SEO settings is important. You should know why things like proper headings, meta tags, and site speed affect SEO.
• Content Management Skills: Very comfortable taking content in various formats (Google Docs, Sheets) and putting it into WordPress pages/posts. You pay attention to formatting details (bullet points, headings, links) and can spot/correct inconsistencies.
• Eye for Design: You might not be a graphic designer, but you have a good aesthetic sense. You can follow a style guide or reference design and match the look. Spacing, alignment, font choices – you notice what looks off and correct it.
• Tools & General Tech: Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides). If you’ve used Notion or Jira before, that’s a bonus.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can explain technical issues in plain English to team members or clients. You’re responsive on Slack/email and not afraid to ask questions or clarify requirements.
• U.S. Work Authorization: Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
• Portfolio: A portfolio of web design/development projects is required.
Bonus / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• PHP & WordPress Development: Ability to write custom PHP code for WordPress (e.g., custom plugin development). Perhaps you’ve created a WordPress plugin to extend WordPress, WooCommerce, or Elementor – let us know.
• JavaScript Frameworks: Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Vue) or modern JS build tools.
• WooCommerce & E-Commerce: Experience building or maintaining WooCommerce sites or other e-commerce platforms. We do some e-commerce projects, so understanding product catalogs, payment gateways, etc., is a plus.
• Server & DevOps Knowledge: Comfort with web hosting environments. Experience using cPanel, RunCloud, or similar hosting control panels to deploy and manage websites. Knowledge of DNS management, setting up domains, email, backups, and SSL certificates.
• API Integration & Coding: Experience integrating third-party APIs or custom scripts. For example, using a Google Maps API on a site, or coding a small widget that requires JS/PHP.
• Design Tools: Familiarity with Figma or Photoshop – sometimes clients provide designs in these, and while you won’t be creating designs from scratch, being able to interpret design files is useful.
• AI Enthusiast: Actively uses AI tools (ChatGPT, Midjourney, DALL-E, etc.) for work or personal projects. If you have examples of how you’ve automated tasks or boosted your workflow with AI, we’re all ears.
• Notion Wizardry: If you know how to build databases or dashboards in Notion to organize information, that’s a small plus (shows you’re organized and tech-forward, like us!).
• Leadership & Mentoring: Experience mentoring junior developers or leading a small team. Since this role can grow into a senior/lead position, any past leadership experience will make you stand out.
What We Offer – Benefits & Culture
• Flexible Hours & Remote Work: We care about results, not clock-watching. Set your own schedule and work from anywhere.
• Competitive Pay: We offer $25–$35/hour (starting as 1099 contractor) depending on your experience and skills. We’ll evaluate and adjust as you take on more responsibility. As the company grows, full-time salary with benefits is the goal.
• Growth Path: You’re getting in relatively early at a growing agency. That means opportunity – as we add more clients and projects, you can expand your role. We envision this position growing into a senior role, where you could lead a team of designers/devs.
• Nerd-Friendly Culture: We’re proud of our intelligent, quirky, fun team. We’re the kind of group that might have a Slack thread debating the latest SciFi movie, right alongside sharing CSS tricks. In short, be yourself – we celebrate passion and quirks.
• Cutting-Edge Tools & Projects: You’ll never be bored here. One week you might be launching a site for a B2B industrial client, next week redesigning a blog for a healthcare startup. Plus, we invest in premium tools: you’ll have access to pro versions of plugins, AI tools, and software that make your job easier.
How to Apply & Next Steps
1. Apply on LinkedIn with your resume, cover letter + portfolio links (GitHub if you have custom WP/PHP).
1. Video interview (culture/skills deep‑dive).
1. Hands‑on simulation (weekend build on a provided staging site using a content brief/assets) to validate skills and set pay.
