About the Position
Our client, a large e-commerce firm is seeking a Senior Category Manager. Within this role, you’ll lead the strategy, planning, and execution for a high-potential product category (Wedding, Kids & Baby, and Pets). This role is both strategic and hands-on—equal parts market analyst, merchant, and cross-functional collaborator. You’ll develop a deep understanding of what makes your category thrive and partner cross functionally to build programs that drive growth and deepen buyer engagement.
Responsibilities
• Develop a scorecard to assess and maintain the overall health of your category, leveraging it to drive insight and action.
• Build robust reporting frameworks to surface trends, flag opportunities, and measure impact across key programs.
• Conduct and continuously refine target customers and competitive analyses to inform strategy.
• Identify and prioritize opportunities to accelerate GMS growth and increase category share.
• Craft and champion end-to-end strategies based on category-specific opportunities and work cross-functionally with partners across Business Development, Marketing, Product, Strategy & Operations, Research, and Legal to bring them to life.
• Develop a merchandising strategy that brings your category to life across our Merchandising toolkit and lead a small team in executing key merchandising efforts across: landings, promotions, programming, and algotorial placements.
• Collaborate with Product to identify and expand “human qualitative review” initiatives that unlock inventory attributes and support category growth.
• Measure and evaluate the impact of your initiatives; experiment with incremental tactics, refine approaches based on learnings, and continuously shift focus to maximize scaled impact across marketing and on-site channels.
• Partner with the Brand Strategy team to define clear, compelling positioning for your category and informs annual buyer programming—across flagship campaigns to long-tail evergreen moments.
About You
• 6+ years of relevant experience in category management, merchandising, brand strategy, or marketplace growth, ideally in a consumer-facing, multi-sided platform or ecommerce environment.
• Deep curiosity and intuition about customers—you’re comfortable turning insights into action.
• Strong analytical acumen; you can translate complex data into business narratives and decisions.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans across multiple stakeholders and functions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across levels and disciplines.
• Experience leading and mentoring teams toward clear goals.
