Position Objective
The Digital Marketing Director will lead demand generation for a high-growth cannabis company, owning strategies that drive transactions, increase average basket size, and enhance gross margin through innovative, compliant, and data-driven marketing initiatives.
This role will integrate e-commerce, loyalty, CRM, and programmatic advertising into a seamless, high-converting customer journey. Success will be defined by the ability to combine personalization, lifecycle marketing, and real-time insights to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with customers across both B2C and B2B segments.
As a key driver of revenue growth and brand differentiation, the Digital Marketing Director will collaborate closely with retail operations, merchandising, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact programs that elevate customer experience and position the company as a market leader.
Essential Functions
Demand Generation Strategy & Execution (25%)
• Own and optimize the digital demand generation funnel to increase transactions, AOV, and margin.
• Develop and execute integrated campaigns across programmatic, display, paid social, email, SMS, SEO/SEM, and content.
• Align acquisition and retention strategies to lifecycle stages, purchase behaviors, and local market preferences.
Loyalty Program & CRM (25%)
• Grow and optimize loyalty programs to maximize LTV and retention.
• Deploy targeted, personalized offers and rewards based on purchase history and location data.
• Ensure loyalty marketing is fully compliant with cannabis marketing regulations.
E-Commerce & Conversion Optimization (20%)
• Lead strategy for cannabis e-commerce platforms (e.g., Dutchie, Jane, IHeartJane).
• Improve online merchandising, cart flow, promotions, and mobile UX in partnership with retail & operations.
• Conduct A/B testing and leverage analytics to continuously improve conversion rates.
Programmatic Advertising & Paid Media (15%)
• Oversee programmatic buying, targeting, and retargeting for high-intent cannabis consumers.
• Optimize spend and ROAS through agency/in-house collaboration.
• Launch geotargeted campaigns tied to store footprint, product availability, and real-time performance data.
Data, Reporting & Optimization (15%)
• Define and monitor KPIs tied to transactions, basket size, and product margin.
• Build and maintain dashboards that deliver actionable insights to leadership.
• Leverage CDPs, DMPs, and analytics tools to drive hyper-personalized campaigns.
Cross-Function Collaboration
• Partner with Retail Operations to align digital marketing campaigns with in-store initiatives, promotions, and seasonal traffic patterns.
• Work with the Merchandising & Buying team to support product selection, pricing, and promotional strategies based on digital performance data and customer insights.
• Coordinate with Compliance & Legal to ensure all campaigns meet cannabis marketing regulations at the state and municipal level.
• Collaborate with Retail Operations teams to create unified communications and resolve customer experience issues quickly.
• Partner with IT to optimize integrations, troubleshoot platform issues, and roll out new digital tools.
• Serve as the voice of the customer across departments by sharing insights that inform business decisions beyond marketing.

Requirements
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, Economics, or related field required.
• Proven success driving demand generation and e-commerce revenue.

• Deep understanding of cannabis marketing regulations, consumer behavior, and omnichannel engagement.
• Experience with platforms like Alpine IQ, Surfside, Jane, Salesforce, Google, Meta or similar.
• Demonstrated success launching and managing loyalty programs that deliver measurable results in customer engagement and store traffic.
• Experience using segmentation strategies and lifecycle marketing to drive acquisition and retention.
• Strong understanding of CRM/CDP platforms, loyalty engines, A/B testing, and omnichannel marketing tools.
• Strong analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision making.
• Must be hands on and able to implement the strategies you develop.
• Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and communication skills with the ability to influence across levels and departments.
• Deep passion for innovation, customer experience, and creating programs that build meaningful brand relationships.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Badge in the state of Colorado.
