Job Description Head of Ecommerce Location: Remote/Hybrid (U.S. based) – New York Preferred Compensation: $130,000-$160,000 Reports to: Commercial Director About The Role Our client, an AI-powered gifting startup is seeking a Head of Ecommerce to support and grow their .com and future sites. This is a cross-functional leadership role for someone who understands how to bring together content, commerce, customer experience, and technology to deliver seamless digital experiences. You’ll be responsible for managing the day-to-day and long-term operations of all the in-house websites, and future brand and technology sites. You’ll lead everything from content publishing workflows to ecommerce fulfillment and customer service, while also owning key performance-driving initiatives like SEO, paid acquisition, and platform functionality. As an early-stage startup, they’re building quickly- and evolving just as fast. This role requires someone who is highly adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited to work across functions as the company grows and priorities shift. Beyond day-to-day execution, this person will help shape their digital presence in a way that aligns with their vision: building a brand and technology platform positioned for investment, strategic partnerships, and long-term acquisition potential. Key Responsibilities Website Development and Management • Oversee the development, launch, and evolution of all the company websites (brand site, ecommerce, and technology platform). • Manage the end-to-end content workflow—from collecting copy, imagery, and branded collateral to loading content into CMS platforms. • Partner with internal teams and/or external vendors to implement site builds and technical improvements. Ecommerce Operations • Manage all DTC ecommerce functions on the brand site, including product setup, pricing, inventory coordination, and promotional calendars. • Oversee the fulfillment and customer service functions related to ecommerce orders. • Lead a small buying and site operations team to ensure accurate and on-brand merchandising. • Own day-to-day operations of our Shopify storefront, including updates, product merchandising, and promotional execution. Content and Editorial Coordination • Own the editorial and promotional calendar for all sites, aligning content updates with brand, commercial, and product strategies. • Collaborate closely with marketing, brand, and creative teams to ensure high-quality, timely updates across all site surfaces. • Oversee email and SMS marketing programs, working with internal or external partners to ensure campaigns are aligned with site goals and performance priorities. Traffic, Conversion, and Performance • Drive site performance by managing SEO, paid search, affiliate marketing, and paid social in partnership with external vendors or internal teams. • Analyze website performance and ecommerce KPIs—including traffic, conversion, bounce rate, cart abandonment, AOV, and ROAS. • Track financial performance and provide regular reporting on site revenue, customer acquisition cost, and profitability. • Recommend feature optimizations or tech improvements that will drive site performance and meet company KPIs. Platform & Vendor Strategy • Define site functionality needs and work with tech partners or internal teams to scope and implement features. • Evaluate and onboard technology and service vendors to support both marketing and ecommerce capabilities (e.g., CMS, analytics, checkout, loyalty, etc.). Essential Requirements • 5–8 years of experience managing consumer-facing websites, including content workflows, ecommerce operations, and performance marketing. • Experience working in cross-functional digital roles that bridge content, design, tech, and commerce. • Comfortable with CMS and ecommerce platforms (Shopify experience is a plus) and able to work directly within tools to publish or QA content. • Strong organizational skills and a systems-oriented mindset—you can juggle daily maintenance while driving strategic improvement. • Experience managing third-party vendors and/or collaborating with engineering and creative teams to launch new site features. • Familiarity with site analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and performance channels (SEO, paid search, affiliate). • Experience managing or supporting email and SMS marketing programs using tools like Klaviyo or Attentive. • Strong analytical skills, with experience interpreting ecommerce and site performance data to inform strategy and product/tech refinements. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a sharp eye for detail. • Startup mentality—comfortable rolling up your sleeves, wearing many hats, and adapting to shifting priorities.
