Role description
We are seeking a high-impact, strategic Head of Pharmacy Operations to lead our rapidly growing online pharmacy. You will be instrumental in building and managing a pharmacy operations function that delivers industry-leading efficiency, high compliance, and excellent patient experience.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience running large, fast-paced operations in a direct to consumer business and highly regulated environment, with proven success scaling teams to 100+FTEs, driving performance in a target-driven environment, and implementing systems to ensure speed, quality, and safety as the business grows.
This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who thrives on growth, is data- and operations-minded, and understands how to build operational scale through people, process, and technology in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Scale
• Design and lead operational strategy to scale safely and efficiently in line with high MoM growth targets.
• Build scalable workflows, tech-supported systems, and automation to drive efficiencies and reduce manual friction.
• Lead cross-functional pharmacy teams, growing from to 100+ over the next 6–9 months.
• Implement KPIs, SLAs and dashboards to drive productivity and meet delivery targets at scale.
• Improve team performance and standards in line with business growth objectives focused around service delivery, safety and customer care at the heart of the business.
Growth Enablement
• Partner with leadership to support revenue and patient acquisition targets through operational readiness and agility.
• Remove operational bottlenecks to enable pharmacy sales growth, order fulfilment, and new service launches.
• Manage high-velocity fulfilment and customer care processes for a digital-first e-commerce pharmacy model.
People & Performance Management
• Recruit, structure, and mentor a high-performing team with an emphasis on throughput, compliance, and patient care.
• Set performance goals and develop team leads to manage daily operations, quality control, and staff development.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and ownership.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management
• Own the end-to-end supply chain to ensure continuity of supply and minimal disruption to patients.
• Work with commercial teams to optimise inventory levels, reduce wastage, and increase product margin.
• Forecast demand in line with rapid growth and regulatory restrictions (e.g. CBPMs, Schedule 2 drugs).
Compliance & Risk Oversight
• Maintain full compliance with UK GPhC regulations and controlled drug legislation.
• Work closely with the Medical Director and Superintendent to ensure that growth does not compromise patient safety or compliance.
• Prepare for audits, regulatory reviews, and operational risk assessments.
Stakeholder Management
• Act as the key operational contact for internal leaders, external suppliers, technology partners, and regulators.
• Represent pharmacy operations at the executive level and contribute to strategic decisions on service expansion and infrastructure.
Experience & Requirements
• 5+ years leading operations in high-growth operations & logistics-driven businesses.
• Proven success scaling large operational teams (50-100+)
• Strong commercial acumen with experience managing target/KPI-led environments.
• Demonstrated ability to drive performance, streamline processes, and meet ambitious growth goals.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Desirable Skills/Experience (but not essential):
• Experience in e-commerce pharmacy operations (Shopify or equivalent).
• Ideally in an online pharmacy or digital healthcare environment.
• Prior exposure to medicinal cannabis or special medicines workflows, CBPMs and Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy or other clinical/health-related degree.
