Job Title Tuck Shoppe Manager & Merchandising Lead FLSA Classification Non-Exempt Status/Hours Part-Time / 25-28 hours per week Reports to Vice President for Operations and Finance Date July 18, 2025 Position Summary The Tuck Shoppe Manager & Merchandising Lead oversees Covenant College's Tuck Shoppe, the campus retail store that provides visitors, alumni and the campus community with Covenant-branded apparel, accessories, and daily essentials. Though historically known as the "bookstore", the Tuck Shoppe's core focus is on merchandising, campus spirit, and retail innovation - both in-store and online via the Shopify e-commerce platform. We seek a creative, trend-aware, and entrepreneurial leader with strong merchandising acumen, e-commerce aptitude, and the ability to manage a small team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to bring fresh ideas to product selection, online retail, and customer engagement, with the goal of growing revenue and enhancing the Covenant community experience. Essential Functions • Manage all aspects of daily operations for the Tuck Shoppe, including purchasing, receiving, merchandising, pricing, in-store and online sales, customer service, and event participation. • Manage and optimize the Tuck Shoppe's Shopify e-commerce platform, ensuring a smooth and attractive online shopping experience that complements in-store offerings. • Use sales data, analytics, and customer feedback to drive strategic decisions around product selection, sizing, and inventory levels. • Source, design, and purchase Covenant College-branded merchandise that aligns with institutional branding standards. • Creatively merchandise both the physical store and online storefront to reflect current trends that appeal to students, alumni, and visitors. • Plan and execute marketing strategies, promotions, and displays that drive both online and in-store traffic and sales. • Regularly assess and refresh product lines to maintain a dynamic and engaging product mix. • Implement inventory control measures to optimize turnover and capital efficiency. • Oversee vendor relationships and manage payment processing with the Business Office. • Recruit, train, manage, and schedule a small team consisting of 3 student workers and a part-time clerk, fostering a positive, customer-focused environment. • Represent the Tuck Shoppe at campus events and develop partnerships that strengthen store visibility and campus engagement. • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. • Other duties as assigned. COMPETENCIES • Strong creativity and merchandising skills with an understanding of current retail trends. • Ability to manage e-commerce platforms, preferably Shopify, including product uploads, promotions, and site optimization. • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop small teams effectively. • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making for inventory and product strategies. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across diverse constituencies. • Sound decision-making and independent judgment. • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and leadership on strategies to amplify the brand creatively and consistently. • Strong initiative, attention to detail, and capacity to work independently. Required Education/Experience • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Three years of experience in retail sales, merchandising, marketing, or related business roles. • Ability to manage e-commerce platforms such as Shopify. • Prior supervisory or team management experience. • Proficiency in Google Apps and Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Preferred Education/Experience • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field. • Prior experience in merchandising, trend analysis, and e-commerce growth strategies. PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT • Professional office and retail store environment. • Routine use of office and retail equipment, including POS systems and computers. • Ability to remain stationary for at least 50% of the workday. • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
