How the Visual Designer contributes:
The Visual Designer concepts and executes visual solutions for all forms of communication, across both digital and print channels and is ultimately responsible for translating business and marketing objectives into designs that are clear, compelling, visually exciting and easy to understand. This role is customer-obsessed, has a strong understanding of marketing principles and is motivated by delivering compelling and innovative solutions. The Visual Designer will collaborate with writers, marketers, key stakeholders, consultants and/or vendors to plan, analyze, organize and execute assigned projects.
The Visual Designer is directly responsible for conceptualization, design and refinement from start to completion and sharing experience and knowledge with others on the team. The ideal candidate understands the complexity of marketing, design that optimizes digital engagement and how to set the visual standard for our brands.
Essential Functions – must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:
Visual Design
• Take ownership of projects while collaborating with marketing partners, designers and art director to understand project/campaign goals and deliver design solutions that are visually exciting.
• Present concepts that fully represent the rationale, process, and creative recommendation and anchor back to the creative brief or user-informed research
• Create storyboards and stylescapes in order to refine and communicate design direction.
• Develop on-brand and visually compelling products across traditional and digital mediums, including email, video, social media, direct mail, web graphics, event promotional materials, environmental and interactive displays.
• Partner with channel experts (web, social, email) to ensure design concepts are translated appropriately.
• Maintain and initiate evolution of brand standards and serve as an internal brand steward, reviewing marketing materials for accuracy and adherence to standards.
• Show curiosity about the target audience and company goals and develop and deliver multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of that target.
• Support efficiency and scalability by contributing to and supporting design systems, toolkits and style guides.
• Collaborate with content creators to support editorial content from a design perspective; creating illustrations, icons and information graphics.
• Continue to learn new skills and stay knowledgeable of technical and digital design developments.
• Takes design ideas from concepts to execution with a keen focus on the details.
Process
• Provide cross-training to peer designers; participate in knowledge sharing.
• Provide art direction to peers as part of the design review process.
• Maintain an up-to-date and organized set of files for project archive and utilizes the department’s digital assets management systems and file servers.
• Work with external vendors to provide creative feedback on outsourced projects, monitor accurate completion and communicate brand updates to these vendors as needed.
• Keep pace with digital technology and software advancements; design accessibility, proposing new technologies and sharing this knowledge with the team.
• Adhere to project timelines and partner with project managers to mitigate and escalate work issues and impacting parameters for project deadlines.
• Attend department, status, direction, presentation and feedback meetings to offer creative input, act as a thought partner in problem solving and receive constructive feedback on active projects.
• Receive direction and present proposed design/advertising solutions while meeting deadlines on a variety of projects simultaneously. Ensure work is reviewed and approved before presentation.
• Present thought process and solutions to peers, partners and management in a clear, professional manner. Where appropriate, include research that will support chosen strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in graphic, visual or human interaction design with an emphasis on design for digital channels.
• Minimum 5 years design experience working in a design or advertising agency and/or corporate marketing & communications department.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with highly technical development teams.
• Demonstrated knowledge visual design, human-centered design, brand development, and human interaction design.
• An extreme passion for understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the user’s perspective throughout the design process.
• A strong online portfolio available for viewing.
• In-depth knowledge of current versions of Adobe Creative Suite, (InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects and Photoshop) and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in Adobe XD, SketchApp or other prototyping tools.
